What a bloody shame. Totally feel gutted for him.
The UK Sun had one long and touching article on Becks. here
- Last night a family friend said: "This is probably the lowest point he has ever encountered in his professional career. Words cannot express how devastated David is.
"Mentally this is disastrous. He thinks he's being punished for something he must have done wrong in life, which of course is ridiculous."
- Wife Victoria, 35, was last night due to fly out from Los Angeles to Helsinki via London to be with him. The friend said: "David has been crying and is in deep shock.
"Football is his life and he feels like it has been unfairly taken away from him. He's just so low.
"The only reason he carried on playing so hard in Europe and was away from his family for so long was to get to his last World Cup. He thinks it's all been for nothing."
Some comments from Sir Bobby posted on the UK Telegraph: here
- Sir Bobby Charlton: If this is the end for David Beckham I'm glad he had Manchester United farewell
I am really disappointed for David Beckham. The worst thing that can happen to any footballer is a serious injury and he has unfortunately suffered the one that all players dread.

If this is the end for David Beckham I'm glad he had his Old Trafford farewell
Achilles injuries are one of the worst that any footballer can suffer and all I can think about at the moment is that he has sustained such a serious problem.
I've known David since he was a young lad coming through the ranks at Manchester United. He was a little boy really when I first met him and the one thing that he loved was the game of football.
That love overshadowed everything else in his world. It was never about money or glory or anything like that with David. He just loved playing football.
I don't know how he will be feeling right now because I was fortunate in that I was never seriously injured in my career.
But I would imagine that the thing that is tearing at him at the moment is the possibility that he might not play the game that he loves at the top level again.
It could be the end of his career. I sincerely hope that it isn't, but it's a possibility. He will be really disappointed now because he will not get another opportunity to play in a World Cup.
But David is a big lad and you never know what will happen. He might come back and start playing again, but he has a serious injury and you cannot speculate on the outcome.
Hopefully, he will be able to play again, once he has had his operation and his treatment. I really hope that it works out all right for him.
My international career ended on the pitch for England when we lost to West Germany in the World Cup in 1970, but David's looks to have ended a different way and I'm sure that is something that he will regret, if this injury does mean he has played for England for the last time.
I'm just glad he was able to play at Old Trafford once again last week when he came back with AC Milan for the Champions League game. That was a nice moment for him and for the supporters.
